An Open Letter to the Church

Dear Beautiful Bride of Christ,

I love you dearly. I am not writing to one church, but to all. I am writing because the ones who have the light aren’t letting it be shone to the ones who need it desperately. I am writing this to myself more than the Bride. I am writing this because we have a commitment that we are not fulfilling. To those on the street, to the single mothers, to the drug addicts, to those we shut outside the church for a certain struggle because we as a church forget that we are all human… I am apologizing. If you do not have a heart for the least of these, then how dare you say that you have a heart for Christ.

“And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’” Matthew 25:40

I mean shouldn’t we be rushing outside the church to love on these people? When we feed them we are feeding Christ, when we clothe them we are clothing Christ, WHEN WE LOVE THEM, WE ARE LOVING CHRIST. Instead we can’t even get outside our own church walls. Who cares about light displays and sound when we have a nation that just needs love? The very same people who Christ says, “Go and shelter…” are the very same people who we say, “There’s a homeless shelter across the way.” I love you church. I LOVE YOU CHURCH. That is the reason why I write. “Evan I don’t do well with the homeless and I don’t want to give them money, who knows what they are going to spend it on.” Peter clears up this situation up for me when talking to a lame homeless man beside a gate called BEAUTIFUL. (ironic?)

“Then Peter said, ‘Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.’” Acts 3:6

Unless you are going to heal that man of whatever causes him to be in that certain state or are going to spread the word of Christ to him, do you really have an option? We as humans do not change other humans. We only lead them to Christ, let Christ fix whatever needs to be fixed; and right now, we are hiding Christ from them.

“Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.’” Matthew 11:28

Lead His broken People to Him.

I love you Church.

In Christ,
