Sunshine…A warm breeze…The smell of blooming flowers: Spring is finally here! Everything is blooming as spring rains nourish the ground, and I find myself rejuvenated at the sight of God’s creation during this time. It is so easy to be joyful when we feel that we have a reason to be. Yet, it is hard to rejoice in the times that are not as good, in the trials of this life. Basically, we feel like we need to have something to rejoice about.
In the book of Psalms, we find a Psalm of David—Psalm 16—that speaks of God’s help in trouble. It begins with David expressing deep levels of despair, with him then moving to expressions of desire for God’s help. The last section of this Psalm, David praises and delights in the Lord. Specifically, he writes:
But I trust in your unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in your salvation.
I will sing the Lord’s praise,
for he has been good to me. (v. 5-6, NIV)
God is good to us! He loves us unconditionally. He alone is our salvation. He has blessed us beyond measure. We have every reason to be joyful at all times!
Let us not wait to rejoice until we feel a situation deserves it: God has been so good to us! This week, I challenge you to write down everything God has blessed you with, whether it be a warm bed to sleep in or the dream job you just landed. Let us praise God in all circumstances!
