When Valentine’s Day rolls around, we find ourselves thinking one of two ways:
1) Excited that we have a valentine
2) Wishing we had a Valentine
Spending the day with a special someone is great, but so is spending the day with friends and family who care about you. For 19 years, I spent every V-Day single, at home with my family. I had never gotten a valentine from the cutest boy in the entire high school… never had I gotten flowers… and I always thought there was something wrong with me, that I was somehow unlikeable. It was not until last year that a thought hit me: Jesus is my Ultimate Valentine. I mean, think about it, Jesus loves you enough that He died for you!
1 John 4:9-10 (ESV) says:
“In this the love of God was made manifest among us,
that God sent his only Son into the world,
so that we might live through him.
In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us
and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”
As believers, rather than longing for a significant other, let us dwell on the perfect, unwavering love that God has for His precious children.
