Ladies, let’s face it: We live in a world that tells us what “true beauty” is. Countless self-help books, magazines, television, and other forms of media tell us how to dress, what to say, and ultimately; who to be. The Bible, however, has a different message for us than that of the world: Not only does beauty come from within, but more specifically from our heart and spirit.
When we look to the Word of God, we can know what is beautiful and precious in His eyes, what TRUE beauty is. I love how 1 Peter 3:3-4 (NASB) puts it:
Your adornment must not be merely external—braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry,
or putting on dresses; but let it be the hidden person of the heart,
with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit,
which is precious in the sight of God.
This doesn’t mean that we have to be shy or act a certain way, but rather be humble in spirit. God made us each with different personalities and gifts, with different traits to use for Him. He made us who we are for a reason; He made us beautiful.
Next time you stop and try to conform to the world’s “beauty” standards, I challenge you to remember what God’s standards are for true, imperishable beauty.
